Art Cart Program at Sunrise Hospital revisited

This is where it all began….well almost!

As many of you know, we have been long time supporters of the arts for children in Las Vegas. When we began our company back in 1994 our business plan included a “compassion plan”. We not only wanted to thrive as Artists but as Compassionate Human Beings as well.

Soon after we open our first studio, I read an article about a little girl who was fighting for time. She had cancer. Her story stayed with me and I felt compelled to respond.

Long story, short version….after reaching out to our local Candlelighters chapter I was paired with one child who was homebound. I visited her regularly to play and create with arts and crafts. She had brain cancer, she was only six and I was the only friend she had ever known.

This led to another child, then another and another and before I knew it I was taking crafts to the hospital to visit kids would were bedridden  who needed the release that art experiences bring and even more so, the need of human connection.

Then something really beautiful happened….I shared my story with others, and they too wanted to help and get involved. Art Carts  were built, continuously filled with art supplies, and placed at Sunrise Hospital Pediatric Ward and at Dr. “B”s office where the kiddos were receiving the chemo. Friends and colleagues came forward and become involved as well, with the extra hands we started hosting art parties at our studios where the children would come to paint or make glass tiles. We began fundraising and were really able to make a huge difference, allowing kids to stay in Las Vegas and get the treatment they needed to have a chance at surviving.

The power of one is great but the power of many is unstoppable!

Thank you to everyone who continues this journey with us…it is because you care that we can make such a huge difference in our community!!
